Belleville Sons of the American Legion Recognizes H.K. Truck Center
Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 105 of Belleville took a trip to North Plainfield the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to drop off a plaque to H.K. Truck Center, to thank them for their continued support of the squadron’s programs.
Each year, squadron 105 sets up shop outside of the ShopRite on Washington Avenue in Belleville to do a can shake and hand out small American flags. This year being the fifth year of the fundraiser, members from the legion family were down there for two shifts a day, for a week from Friday, Nov. 3 to Friday, Nov. 10.
The thousands of dollars raised each year go directly back to SAL programs which benefit veterans and children in the local community, throughout New Jersey for national initiatives of the American Legion. This year, the squadron again received corporate donations, one of which being form H.K. Truck Center.
H.K. Truck Center, a certified Hino and Fuso dealership serving the tri-state area, sells and services commercial vehicles with their qualified technicians, expert salesman, and parts specialists. The company has two locations – Boonton and in North Plainfield.
Ed Hall, a dual member – meaning a veteran member, and a member of the Sons honoring his father’s service – is also a Business Development Manager with H.K. For a number of years, he has asked the company to support eh American Legion’s programs with a substantive donation. At Hall’s behest, he wanted to do something to thank the company for their donations.
This year, members from the SAL squadron took the 45-minute trip to hand off a plaque made for H>k. Truck Center, to thank them in person. The plaque reads, “in sincere appreciation of your continuing contributions to the advancements of our programs dedicated to God and Country.”
The plaque was presented to Henry Knabe III, sales account manager, and Vanessa Ciervo, business manager.
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed ton mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to fellow service members and veterans. Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires, and is open to all male sons and grandsons of eligible veterans. Completing the Legion Family, in the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad.
